With the Super bowl tomorrow, here is a healthy low calorie, gluten free snack. Everyone remembers from childhood this oldie but good snack called ants on a log. It's made with celery sticks, peanut butter or almond butter, and raisins or trail mix. Cut the celery in half, spread on butter of your choice, top with raisins, trail mix or mini chocolate chips. Easy to make and a good for you snack, one all can enjoy. This yummy treat will satisfy your sweet craving for less than 200 calories. So go ahead and enjoy!

Day 4 Of 7 Healthy Favorite Foods And Snacks

Today I will tell you why quinoa should be a staple in everyone's kitchen.  Quinoa  is treated as a grain, when actually it is a seed and is naturally gluten free.  Quinoa cooks pretty quick and can easily replace rice or pasta during any meal of  the week.  One cup cooked provides 8 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber, making it very nutritional.  However it is high in carbohydrates and calories.  It is not meant for a low carb diet.  One cup cooked contains about 220 calories with 39 grams of carbohydrates.

Day 3 Of 7 Healthy Favorite Foods And Snacks

With the super ball coming this weekend one of my  favorite and healthy snacks is popcorn.  You can enjoy popcorn while watching TV, just try to skip the added butter, opt for air popped to make it a  guilt free snack.  Popcorn is a good source of fiber making it a filling snack, which you can eat without worrying about calories.

Day 2 of 7 Healthy Favorite Foods And Snacks

Who says good things don't come in small packages.  I am talking blueberries, small, sweet, healthy and yummy.  They are a super food for sure, packed with antioxidants and vitamins.
These little berries are rich in antioxidants which helps the body fight colds.  Usually available all year round, if not opt for frozen berries instead.

You can add them to a smoothie, toss into gluten free oatmeal or cereal.  You can also just enjoy them alone as a snack.

They are low in calories with 85 per cup.  They are high in fiber, vitamin K, vitamin C and manganese.  They are also a good source of copper.  This super food is healthy and yummy with antioxidants,  so go have some and enjoy.

Spaghetti Squash

Spaghetti squash is available throughout the year. It has increased in popularity over the years. It is a winter squash, lower in calories, carbs and is a gluten free alternative to pasta or noodles.  Once the squash is cut and cooked the inside flesh resembles spaghetti.  It tastes great with sauce or as the base of a pad Thai or stir fry.  Low in calories, about 40 per cup with  vitamins B, C, E, and K.
In addition, spaghetti squash provides a source of essential minerals calcium, zinc, copper, manganese and selenium.  This squash will not disappoint you.

This Week Of Posts

I was thinking over the weekend what I should post this week.  I wanted to focus on some foods that are healthy and that should be in everyone's diet.  So each day I will pick a favorite food or snack and tell you the benefits of them.  Hope you enjoy.
