Day 6 Of 7 Of Healthy Nuts

The nut of the day is the walnut.  A walnut is the nut of any tree of the genus Juglans, particularly the Persian
or English walnut.  Technically a walnut is the seed of  a drupe or drupaceous nut, and not a true botanical nut.
Researchers are convinced more than ever that the nutritional benefits of walnuts are best when consumed
whole with the skin.  We now know that about 90% of the phenols are found in the walnuts skin.  There are
many health benefits of eating walnuts.  I will list a few.

1.  Heart Health
Walnuts contain amino acid L-arginine which offers multiple vascular benefits to people with heart disease
or are at risk for heart disease.  They contain omega 3 fat alpha-linolenic acid, which is an anti inflammatory
and may help prevent formation of clots.

The pistachio are actually kernels obtained from fruits belonging to the Anacardiaceae family, in the genus: Pistacia.

Day 4 Of 7 Of Healthy Nuts

The nut of the day is the cashew nut.  The cashew tree is a tropical evergreen tree that produces the cashew seed and the cashew apple.  It can grow as high as 14M, but the dwarf cashew tree grow to about 6M, and seems to produce more.  Cashew nuts are actually the kidney shaped seeds that adhere to the bottom of the cashew apple.  They are considered delicacies of Brazil and the Caribbean.  They are always sold shelled because the interior of the shells contain a caustic resin, known as cashew balm, which must be carefully removed before the nut is fit for consumption.
Here are some of the health benefits of this nut.

Day 3 Of 7 Days Of Healthy Nuts

Today I will talk about a popular nut, the almond.  The almond is a species of tree native to the Middle East and South Asia.  The almond is also the name of the edible and widely cultivated seed of the tree.
Fortunately, the delicately flavored and versatile almond is available throughout the year.  Although almonds are available all year, they are freshest in the mid summer.  The almond we think of as a nut is technically the seed of thee fruit of the almond tree.  It is low on the glycemic index, with 132 calories per 1/4 cup.  They contain many vitamins and nutrients, as well as fiber.
Health Benefits of almonds:
1.  Lower your LDL Cholesterol and reduce your risk of heart disease. Although high in fat, it is monounsaturated fat, which has been associated with reduced risk of heart disease.
